Support for Unique Patient Identifier
REPEAL SECTION 510 FROM LABOR-HHS APPROPRIATIONS BILL
Dear HIMSS Member,
The Patient ID Now Coalition, of which HIMSS is a founding member, is working to advance the conversation around patient ID and to urge our Senators to repeal Section 510 from the Labor-HHS appropriations bill to allow for a national strategy around patient identification.
In July, the US House of Representatives adopted an amendment striking language in the House FY21 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education (Labor-HHS) Appropriations bill that prohibits the HHS from using federal funds to promulgate or adopt a unique patient identifier. Striking this language will give HHS the ability to evaluate a range of patient identification solutions that protect patient privacy and are cost-effective, scalable, and secure. Now, we need our Senators to take action.
To take action and support the inititative to repeal section 510 from the Labor-HHS approrpaitaion bill:
- Write your Senators using this pre-written letter here: https://patientidnow.org/take-action/
- Review the Patient ID Now toolkit for more information and additional ways to get involved here: https://patientidnow.org/about/
We encourage you to review the resources provided by the Patient ID Now Coalition and ask that you sign onto the letter, expressing your support to your Senator.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Agha, MD MHA
